During the week of October 25 - 28 the 90th National FFA convention was held in Indianapolis, Indiana. Students from Springville FFA had the opportunity to attend this convention and expo. While in attendance students expanded their knowledge by attending workshops and tours of local businesses. These tours included Jeptha Creed Distillery, Undulata Farm, KyBlueGrass Genetics, Schaffer Hogs and Abbott’s Candy Factory.
The SHS Sterling Scholars for 2017-2018 are:
On Friday, November 3, our Springville High Red Devils defeated Alta 20-17 with a winning field goal advancing for a third straight year to play in the state semifinal game at Rice Eccles Stadium at the University of Utah in which they will take on the Lehi Pioneers.
On Saturday, November 4, the Lady Red Devils Volleyball team swept the Wasatch Wasps, 3-0, in the 5A consolation round hurling them to face the Skyridge Falcons later that day. Skyridge swept Skyline and Springville, leaving the Lady Red Devils with a respectable 7th place overall state finish.
Please see the PDF for this week's events and information about driver's education, a new Springville City parking ordinance, ACT prep class, National Media Literacy Week, Utah College Application Week, senior announcements, Angels and Devils 5k, the SHS Quiz Bowl, SHS Theater's production of Cinderella, and the state semi-final football game.
Carter Jennings is our new AP and Honors Chemistry Teacher; however, he’s a long-time Red Devil. He graduated from Springville High School, then later attended and graduated from the University of Utah. This is his first year teaching and he’s excited about it.
Jennings reflects on his teaching vision, “My vision of teaching is to show my students that a “challenging” subject like Chemistry can be fun and much easier than people think. I hope that my own excitement about Chemistry is reflected in my teaching and students can get excited about it as well.”
On Monday, October 30, Springville High's LAI club created and sponsored a community Haunted House in the underground track.
Bradley Nicol recorded 3 TDs to go along with his 111 rushing yards, while Cole Bowers rushed for 168 yards and another touchdowns to lead Springville past Olympus, 28-14, for the win in the 5A first round in a surprisingly low-scoring game.
Ty Erikkson, the quarter back for the SHS Red Devils, has been playing football since fifth grade.
“After high school, I’d’ like to play for Ohio State,” said Erikkson.
