This month Caitlin Washnock, a Senior at Springville High School, had one of her art pieces published in Sugar Rascals; which is an online literary magazine featuring art and writing from teens.

Washnock created her art work in Commercial Art class with Adobe Illustrator.

Washnock made a polygon art image of Darth Vader. “I have always loved Star Wars,” said Washnock, “I wanted to show my passion and appreciation for Star Wars through art.”

Washnock referenced an image she found online. The results were incredible.

The 2017 Lady Red Devil Girls Golf team is currently in third place in the region close to Wasatch, trailing by only a few points, with Uintah taking the lead.

The girls are optimistic about this season and hope to at least place second in the region and perform well at state.

Our beloved 10th grade English teacher and golf coach, Mr. Brett Miller, will be leaving Springville High School at the end of this school year to pursue new opportunities teaching English in China.

Miller has been more than just an English teacher for our school, he has also been the boys and girls golf coach for the past 11 years. The move to China will not end his career as a golf coach. Miller plans on furthering the Chinese students “American experience” by hopefully establishing a golf team at the school.

Miller plans on staying in China for at least a year, their family will most likely stay there for two or more years. Miller says he would not be opposed to returning to SHS after he finishes teaching in China.

Thank you Mr. Miller for all you have done for Springville High Boys and Girls Golf.

On Thursday, April 20, Haden Penrod and Anela Christensen signed national letters of intent to continue their running careers at the collegiate level.

Christensen signed with Dixie State University and will be joining their cross country program this Fall.

Penrod signed with Brigham Young University for mid-distance running and will be joining the team after he returns from a two year LDS mission.  Penrod joins one of the best recruiting classes in the nation that currently consists of multiple elite distance runners, throwers, and sprinters.  Penrod is the second track athlete in the class of 2017 from Springville High to join the BYU Cougars.

Julie Sumsion signed her letter of intent earlier in the school year and will be running both cross country and track at BYU starting next Fall.
