On Friday, March 26, the boys and girls track teams from Springville high, packed up and headed to St. George for the Pine View Invitational. This two day meet brought teams from all over Utah, and there were more than 20 schools that attended. The Springville girls dominated the competition, taking first place as a team with 92 points, over Cedar, who had 85. The boys also performed well, coming in 6th place out of 24 teams. There were many impressive performances, and the boys and girls combined for a very impressive, 11 state qualifying marks.
On the girl’s side, Kaisa Rosenberg and Sarah Duncan went 1-2 in the 100 meter dash, and Kaisa also took first in the 200 meter dash, with Lexi Eaton placing fifth. Vanessa Johnson was 4th in the 400 meter dash, and Brooke Larsen and Mindy Stapel were 2nd and 7th in the 100 meter hurdles, respectively. Sarah Duncan also finished third in the 300 meter hurdles, and was a member of the 4X400 meter relay which won by more than 10 seconds. The girls 4X100 meter relay team also took first, and Lexi Eaton took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 5’8”. Aimee Wheeler and Nicole Ramon took 3rd and 6th in the long jump, and Hannah Lutz finished 10th in the mile, and 7th in the two mile.
For the boys, Steven Krutsch took 4th in the 300 meter hurdles, with Mitch Kawai finishing in 8th. The boys 4X400 meter relay team also placed second, and Brody Swanson placed 5th in the discus and 7th in the shot put. Also scoring for the boys in the throws, was Michael Swasey who placed 8th in the javelin. Steven Krutsch was also 3rd in the high jump, with Hunter Nelson placing 7th. The boys 4X800 meter relay team came in 2nd, and Shane Williams finished in 8th place in the 800 meter run. In the other distance events, Joseph Christensen was third in the mile, and Andy Shields was fourth in the two mile, with Christensen also finishing well in ninth place. Way to go Red Devils!
