Anne Calkins Crowned Sweetheart 2010
Anne Calkins (center) was crowned SHS 2010 sweetheart, Nikki Erickson (right) first attendant, and Kelsey Frampton (left) was crowned as second attendantSpringville High School held their annual Sweethearts week February 15th -20th. This school wide weekly celebration of Valentines started off with girls being nominated to be the crowned SHS sweetheart. These girls that were nominated had different activities that they competed in. The activities included making posters, decorating cakes, herding pigs, a personal interview, and an evening pageant. Sweetheart contestants were Karen Sumsion, Whitney Zufelt, Kylie Adams, Chelsaea Markham, Anne Calkins, Kelsey Frampton, Brianne Draper, Nikki Erekson, Rachelle Pope, ChaiDee Woods, Chelsae Johnston, Nichole Barton, Sierra Henry, and Brittany Christensen.
Winning the poster contest was 1st Sierra Henry, tied for 2nd Brianne Draper and Anne Calkins and 3rd place was Chelsaea Markham. The cake decorating was judged on taste, theme (which was “I Cross my Heart”) and creativity. Kelsey Frampton received 1st place cake decorating, Karen Sumsion 2nd place with Kylie Adams and Nikki Erickson tied for 3rd. The team that won the fastest time with pig herding was Kelsey Frampton and Anne Calkins. Sweetheart’s week ended with a school-wide assembly on Friday, February 19 and a dance on Saturday, February 20. The assembly on Friday included an exciting obstacle course for the girls and an auction where the sweetheart contestants sold fun lunch baskets that helped raise money for Sub-for-Santa program, one FFA’s community service projects. Sweetheart’s royalty was announced at the end of the assembly. Anne Calkins was crowned SHS 2010 sweetheart, Nikki Erickson first attendant, and Kelsey Frampton was crowned as second attendant. The dance that was held the following night was beautifully decorated and had a nice turn out. Thanks to all those who competed, supported, and participated in Sweetheart’s week.
