Girls Swim Team

The Mighty Red Devil Girls Swim team dominated Region 8 competition this year, placing first in every region dual meet and sweeping to first place at the Region 8 Championship meet held in January. In state competition, the Lady Red Devils surpassed their 10th place ranking and swam to an outstanding 4th place finish. What happened at state was the result of many hours of dedication and hard work in the pool where each week the Lady Red Devils challenged themselves to do their best. Their example over the past three years has inspired more young swimmers to try out for the team and continue the program of excellence in swimming Springville is well known for.

At the rate the Lady Red Devils are improving, they are poised to capture a state championship within the next three to four years. However, their opportunity for personal development and learning which comes from dedication to a most demanding sport is in question. Currently, before the city counsel are proposals to build a new recreational facility which would not include space for a competition swimming team to workout. In the event that this comes to fruition, swimming will no longer be carried as a sport at the high school. The Lady Red Devils would like to thank the community, students, teachers, and the administration at SHS along with the Springville City Council, and the Nebo School District Board for their continued support to the swimming program and encourage them to continue that support in the new recreation facility.

Boys Swim Team

The Mighty Red Devil Boys Swim team dominated the Region 8 and the 4A State Championship meets, placing first and second respectively. To date, the Mighty Red Devil Boys Swim team has received more state trophies in the past five years than any other sports team at SpringvilleHigh School including first place trophies in 2008 and 2009; and second place trophies in 2006 and 2010. Along with the state championship honors, the Mighty Red Devil Boys Swim Team has placed eight additional region and invitational trophies in the SHS trophy case in the past five years. This consistency in competition is impressive.

As a team, they accept all who have a desire to train hard, play hard and learn dedication. In the pool they are dominating in every respect. This year they have worked hard to build a strong foundation of excellence which will serve future SHS swim teams for years to come. Along with the girls team, they have learned to do the best with what they have and despite pool conditions, they have come together as a team to promote true SHS pride. The Might Red Devil Boys are grateful for the support they receive from their school and community. They hope that the mighty tradition of Red Devil swimming will long continue in promoting physical fitness, dedication, and excellence.  As a team they look forward to working with school and community leaders to find a way to provide space for competition swimming in the new recreational facility.
