WEIGHT TRAINNG-BOYS PE
ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS
The Weight Training class at Springville High School provides each student the opportunity to learn kinesthetically and cognitively about their muscles through a variety of lifting, running and flexibility exercises.
When completed, each student will be able to:
· Identify major muscle groups
· Discuss major concepts such as overload, progression, specificity, and periodization
· Define endurance, strength, hypertrophy and power
· Program lifts for strength gains as well as for body building
· Demonstrate at least two different lifts for each major muscle group
· Discuss and demonstrate safe weight room habits and proper spotting techniques
· Demonstrate a healthy lifestyle by completing a mile run test as well as a flexibility test
· Demonstrate writing skills by completing an abstract of an appropriate weight training article
Grading Expectations
Students must be able to physically and socially work in a self-motivating environment.
Because this is an activity class, attendance and active participation are required and heavily weighted.

· Principles of Weight Training Exam 15%
· Safety and Spotting Exam 15%
· Fitness Level Pre-Test 15%
· Citizenship 5%
Terms 2 and 4
· Activity Participation 50%
· Fitness Level Post-Test 20%
· Anatomy Exam 15%
· Abstract 10%
· Citizenship 5%
