Senior Nicole Metler competed at the ASL State Competition on April 22 and brought home the 3rd Place bronze medal for her “Same Hand Shape Story.”  Metler decide to do her sign story about wartime. Metler had to create a story using up to three hand shapes. Not to be confused with hand signs, ha and shape is either “open hand” or “closed hand,” which can have many different signs.

This competition was hosted at Herriman High School with many other schools in the region. Metler practiced for two to three weeks to prepare for this competition. Metler’s favorite part of the competition was being on stage in front of everyone and the whole audience silent sign language clapping instead of traditional clapping.
