Springville High School has several new faces in its halls this year. Perhaps the most noteworthy of them all is our new Principal, John Degraffenried. After former principal, Rick Robins, accepted the principal position at Juab High School, Nebo School District called upon Mr. Degraffenried to fill the void. Before being appointed to the SHS staff, Mr. Degraffenried was the principal at Spanish Fork Junior High for five years. He has been in Nebo School District for 20 years and has taught various classes, including multimedia, drafting, and CTE technology.
Principal Degraffenried attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University, where he obtained his masters degree in technology education. He now lives in Santaquin and is married with four children and four grandchildren. He says he looks forward to getting to know the students and being involved in activities. When asked of his plans for the future of SHS, he responded, “To continue the history of excellence.” Now that he’s been able to experience the school’s environment, he said,”I’m most impressed with the students, doing what they’re supposed to do, but still having fun.” How true that is. We all at Springville High welcome Principal Degraffenried and are glad to be graced by his presence. Welcome to our community, Mr. Degraffenried!
