Springville High School has a tradition of having Regional Champions in Cross Country, and this year is no different. On Monday, at the Region 8 Cross Country Championships, junior Joseph Christensen, from Springville High School, pulled away from the competition and cruised to victory, covering the 3 mile course in 15:48.

Following him in 2nd place, also from Springville High, was senior Andy Shields, who ran the course in a time of 16:11. These two performances propelled the Red Devil Boys team to a second place finish in the region, which qualifies them for the Cross Country State Championships on Oct. 21. The top five scorers for the Devils included: region champion Joseph Christensen, runner-up Andy Shields, Riley White in 12th place, Mark Israelsen coming in 13th, and Ty Shields placing 15th.

In the JV boy’s race, Matt Brown from Springville ran a time of 17:53 to come in 1st overall and become the JV Region Champion.

The Girls also performed very well, with junior Hannah Lutz coming in 2nd place in a time of 19:17. This led the Lady Devils team to a third place finish, also qualifying them for the State Championships. The Red Devil girls’ top five included Hannah Lutz in 2nd place, Alyssa Payne coming in 15th place, Libby Jensen following closely behind in 16th, Bri Barnes in 29th, and Hannah Nelson finishing in 30th place.

Congratulations Joseph, Andy, Hannah, and Matt for your incredible performances!
