Springville High School is overjoyed to welcome our newest Biology teacher Mrs. Lori Caras. Although Biology is not the only class Caras has taken on at SHS, she also teaches AP Biology, Medical Anatomy & Physiology, and Biotechnology.

Caras has taught for the past 22 years at a large variety of schools teaching many different subjects. She taught Anatomy and Mammalogy labs at BYU for three years prior. She also taught at Springville Junior High, Shoreline Community College in Seattle, Woodville High School in the Seattle area, and was a graduate teaching assistant in Zoology at Brigham Young University.

“I want kids to leave my class with a renewed sense of curiosity, to be inspired to want to learn more and have the tools necessary to evaluate the world and their place in it,” said Caras.

Caras has expressed that she feels rewarded to have everyday interactions with students and to inspire them. She likes hearing about past students of hers that have sought careers in science since taking her class. She enjoys teaching and sincerely cares about her students.

She is happily married to her husband Tony. She has children and grandchildren that she loves spending time with. She enjoys watching sports, especially the Giants and 49ers. She likes reading and watching movies. She is passionate about riding motorcycles, despite the fact that she sold her own Harley.

She previously taught English in Taiwan despite the fact that she didn’t speak Chinese and the students didn’t speak English. Even with that issue in the way, they managed to get along and have a great experience.
