Submitted by carey.white on

The cross country team traveled to Spanish Fork to participate in the first annual UIAAA (Utah Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association) Invitational on September 18.  The Lady Red Devils cross country team took second place, first in the 4A state division and region being led by Junior Julie Sumsion.  The Red Devil boys team ended up winning the meet led by Freshman sensation Grant Gardner.  This is the first time that the boys have won a meet in a long time and same goes for the girls.  The team had eight individual medalists; at least one top finisher per race.

The Medalists are as follows:

JV Frosh/Soph (Boys)
Adam Krieger (Fr) 5th
Devin Pancake (So) 6th

JV Frosh/Soph (Girls)
Natalya Love (Fr) 6th

JV Jr/Sr (Boys)
Kaden Nissen (Jr) 10th

JV Jr/Sr (Girls)
Megan Skinner (Jr) 2nd

Varsity Girls
Julie Sumsion (Jr) 2nd

Varsity Boys
Grant Gardner (Fr) 2nd
Haden Penrod (Jr) 11th

The team has done exceptionally well this season and they are now ranked 1st in the region for boys and girls.  The athletes are having fun and they are excited to see how the rest of the season plays out for them.  The team’s next meet will be at the Nebo Invitational hosted by Maple Mountain High School which is going to be one of the biggest races Springville has run in this season.  This year has been a great year and this season has been one of the most successful in school history.  Keep it up Red Devils!
