Mr. Jacob Douglas is one of our new outstanding teachers at Springville High.  Douglas teaches Psychology, Sociology, and AP Government.  Although this is Douglas’ first year at Springville High, he is not new to teaching.  He’s an experienced teacher; this is his 13th year in public education.  Prior to SHS, Douglas worked at Wasatch Elementary in Provo, Utah, Joseph George Middle School in San Jose, California, and Cupertino High School in Cupertino, California.

Douglas’ most rewarding experience teaching is when students come back years later to tell him about their successes.

“Seeing students believing in themselves both as students and as people and to see them change for the better is rewarding,” said Douglas.

Douglas explains why learning Psychology is important, he said, “Understanding how people think and why they do the things they do is an important part of developing empathy and compassion for others.  It’s significant for individuals to become responsible members of a community and develop healthy relationships.”

Douglas received his Bachelor’s Degree from Brigham Young University in History and Psychology.  He completed a Master’s Degree in Education from Stanford University.

Douglas is married to Olivia and they have a 16-month old daughter and another daughter due in February.

Outside of school, Douglas enjoys cooking, gardening, outdoor activities, and spending time with his family.

Welcome to Springville High Mr. Jacob Douglas!
