Mr. Mark Murdoch, from the football field to the classroom

by Madison Burns and Brandon Lee, SHS News Writers

This is Mr. Mark Murdoch’s first year as a new Business Teacher.  He teaches Exploring Computer Science, Entrepreneurship, Sports Marketing, Accounting, and Leadership.   Before Murdoch joined our Red Devil staff, he was a football coach for five years at Payson High and had a career in Real Estate.

Murdoch said, “I hopes to make a difference in the lives of my students and players.” Murdoch continued saying, “I am here to help make myself and others better.”

He enjoys seeing others learn new things and succeed, but doesn’t have a specific experience that is his favorite.  He also coaches football for our Springville Red Devils; he helps in coaching the defensive backs.

Murdoch said, “Our team is doing great, undefeated!” He is married with two children and lives in Payson. He enjoys spending time with his family, doing things together, and he loves all sports.

Murdoch said the most unusual job he ever had was at a fruit company. He shook trees with a big machine to get the cherries off, dumped other types of cherries into a big bin of chemicals to turn them into Maraschino Cherries, and cleaned up a lot of undesirable messes.

Mr. Murdoch, we are glad we can have you joined our Red Devil team including many other wonderful teachers here at Springville High.

Lady Red Devils defeat Lady Lions in varsity volleyball

by Jordan Goff and Miranda, SHS News Writers

On Thursday, September 29, the Lady Red Devils matched up with the Lady Lions ending in an exciting Springville victory in which they shut out Payson 3-0. Payson and Springville stayed close in all 3 rounds, but Springville always pulled through and won scoring 25 points in each round. This was a great morale boost for our volleyball team.

“I think we have a chance to win region,” said senior Nicole Wheeler, who is looking forward to having fun and going out with a bang her last year of high school.

The volleyball team is excited for the rest of the season and can’t wait to see how it goes.
